"My First Memory"

My earliest childhood memory is of my mom dropping me off at my grandparents' house before leaving for Japan. When my parents divorced, neither wanted to care for me, so I lived with my grandparents on both sides. I remember feeling strange that day because my usually strict mom was unusually kind and even bought me an ice cream cone, something she never did. When she dropped me off, she was crying and asked my grandmother to take good care of me. That's when I realized she was leaving, and suddenly, the ice cream didn't matter anymore.
